Wordpress.com Was Down For About 2 Hours

Today Wordpress.com was down for about 2 hours. This affected about 10.2 million blogs and deprived those blogs from 5.5 million page views. This downtime was faced by normal, Vip and premium blogs. This news came up when a tweet came up which was confirmed by wordpress.com that Wordpress.com was down.

What Happened

The cause of this severe downtime appears to be an unscheduled change to a core router by one of our datacenter providers messed up our network in a way we haven’t experienced before, and broke the site. It also broke all the mechanisms for failover between locations of Wordpress in San Antonio and Chicago. All of people's data was safe and secure, they just couldn’t serve it.

[UPDATE]: Wordpress CEO Matt Mullenweg posted an update on WP’s Twitter account that reads: “We’re investigating the source & most expedient fix. I hope to have everyone’s blogs back & running as soon as possible.”
[UPDATE]: Wordpress.com is back up. Matt Mullenweg’s tweet reports “We are back running at full capacity now. Closely monitoring services for any aftershocks.”
